The first official event of RX Lites 2016 season has organised as a test day for drivers and teams at Hockenheim Ring in Germany. The venue will host the season opening round this year for the first time for RX lites drivers on 7-8 May weekend. It was a great opportunity for test day participants to get to know the track before the first race of the year.
Despite the rainy weather in Baden Württemberg region, there were 7 drivers joined the activity. The first signs of the diversity of RX Lites 2016 season came to surface as there were 6 different nationalities were present in Hockenheim including France, Kenya, Norway, Sweden, Turkey and Germany.
Olsbergs MSE squad got on the track with 2 new drivers. As the team announced recently, French Cyril Raymond and Kenyan Tejas Hirani will carry the team’s flag. They sure have a hard job to succeed and continue the good reputation of the team as Kevin Eriksson became the first champion of the series back in 2014 under same team colors. Cyril has a very strong support from his native federation FFSA where Tejas still has the title to be the first and only African to compete in WorldRX arena.
RX Lites regular team JC Raceteknik brought 2 of its cars to test day. Joachim Hvaal who finished the 2015 season at 4th position overall, was at the steer of his car for practicing the track. The second car of the team was belong to a very new name to the series. Young Norwegian driver Sondre Evjen joined the team for a full season campaign recently and he is expecting to be as competitive as possible starting from the first race. He finished the RallyX on Ice Championship at 13th position with 7 points.
Turkish but global racing team Toksport WRT has just announced that they will be running the full season in RX Lites this year. Their 18 years old champion driver Ayhancan Guven got the opportunity to test both the car and the track. Despite his young age, Ayhancan has serious experience behind the wheel. He started to race when he was 6 year old in karting. Since then, he has competed in many different races including Formula Alfa and private series.
Simon Syversen of Set Promotion was the last name to complete the list as it will be the first time for him in Hockenheim too. 6th overall finisher of 2015 season, Simon will challenge his rivals to improve his season result this year.
The season starts in Hockenheimring on 7-8 May and only a week later the teams will move to Mettet, Belgium for the 2nd round. Lydden Hill,UK is next and also in May. Norwegian round in June and Sweden in July will follow. The season will end in Riga, Latvia after visiting Barcelona in September.
