Rallycross fans in Portugal have witnessed the drivers challenging in so many different weather conditions in Montalegre Race Circuit this weekend. FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy started with an unexpected struggles for drivers.

RX Lites 2015 season kicked off on Portugese soil which turned out a wet clay after heavy rain on Saturday night. But apparently this did not effect reigning champion Kevin Eriksson not even a bit. Kevin dominated the weekend from start to finish. He won all of the four Heats, Semi Final Race1 and the Final Race on Sunday. He proved that he will be playing the game so hard to defend his crown.

Kevin Hansen Jr. struggled with a few problems on Heats as well as changing weather conditions but managed to win the Semi Final Race2 and on the final race he secured the second place after his massive attack on Tobias Brink. Joachim Hvaal stepped on the third place of the podium and after a few rounds he joined last year, young Norwegian finally tasted the podium champagne at the season-opener.

Tobias Brink had a good start for the season. He clocked top 3 times during the Heats and finished the Semi-Final Race2 şn second place just behind Hansen Jr. Despite he couldnt make it to podium, he secured the third place on Championship standings after those succesful Intermediate and Semi-Final scores.

European Rally Champion Krzysztof Holowczyc seemed happy with his new experience at the steer of his RX Lites, till the final race. He was fined with a double joker lap after he moved his car at the start grid, as it was declared by the Stewards as false-start. He stuck on his second joker-lap run as he slid outside the track and couldn’t managed to get back on the track. Still, he holds the fourth position on the season standings and his fans expect him to force the podium on next round.

The other unlucky driver who had to retire on the final race was Sandra Hultgren. Sandra rolled her car at the very first corner of the race after a clash with her rivals. She will be back on the grid on the next round again.

Both newcomers, Simon Wago Syversen and Martin Kaczmarski had a few problems during the weekend and couldn’t raised the tempo as they wanted it to be. Sandra’s brother Simon Olofsson was also not at the place he wished for.

Cooper Tires helped a lot to RX Lites drivers on changing weather conditions during the weekend. From wet tarmac to clay, dusty surfaces to slippery gravel, Cooper Tires proved how reliable they can work on heavy duty.

Next RX Lites round will be organised in Lydden Hill on 22-24 May. The British round is remembered its highly fast straights, up and downhill sections but most importantly instant changing weather conditions. Rallycross Fans in UK will better be ready for high level competition.
