Olsbergs MSE’s Oliver Eriksson earned his third victory of the GRC Lites season, and jumped into the points lead, by winning Saturday’s main event at Bushy Park Barbados. Teammate Austin Cindric and polesitter Alejandro Fernandez completed the podium.
Eriksson and Alex Keyes won the first pair of Saturday heats, while Tanner Whitten and Eriksson took the second round heats. Miles Maroney, who had nearly missed the second round heat as his team replaced a clutch, fell from the lead on the final lap of Heat 2B due to a stop-and-go penalty, while Cindric—who missed Friday’s practice and qualifying due to another commitment—lost a battery line on the final lap of Heat 2A.
In the final, Eriksson beat Whitten to the first corner in a drag race down the frontstretch, while Cindric jumped to fourth after starting last. Both drivers took the Kobalt Tools Joker Lap early on to establish the first and second spots, while Whitten, Fernandez, and Keyes battled for third.
Fernandez grabbed the spot from Whitten in the race’s final laps, giving him his first podium result since Detroit II in July. Whitten fell to sixth, as Keyes took fourth and Maroney jumped to fifth despite serving a stop-and-go penalty on the race’s first lap.
Heading into Sunday’s final, Eriksson leads Lites points with 420, while Cindric ranks second in the standings with 417. Maroney remains within reach of the lead at third with 402, while Fernandez ranks fourth with 376 and Whitten holds fifth with 322.
